SCHOOL-SAFE MISSION

The risks of serious illness for people with nut allergies are very real. Some can lose their life by eating only a very small, pea-sized amount of food containing nuts. To minimise the risk, schools across Australia have banned or do not encourage peanuts and tree nuts across school grounds, canteens, in the curriculum and extracurricular activities.

WHY PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD ADHERE TO NUT-FREE GUIDELINES AT SCHOOL
Food allergies are on the rise. In Australia, three out of every 100 children have a peanut allergy.
Particularly with younger children, it can be hard to keep nuts seperate in a  lunchbox - or even in their mouth! Snacking nuts are dusty and nut butter is sticky. Children don’t always wash their hand, they stroll around the classroom, run them across everything and some even confuse their school uniform for a serviette.

A child with a nut allergy can come into contact with a surface that contains trace amounts of nuts, touch their face or put their finger in their mouth and have a severe reaction. Even airborne particles can trigger an allergic reaction in those with severe allergies.

WHAT OUR SHCOOL-SAFE MISSION MEANS
At Mila And Ivy, we know that for many parents and guardians the idea of a nut-free school zone can be challenging and makes packing a suitable and healthy lunchbox a tricky task. That's why Muesli Butter was specifically created with these challenges in mind.

Muesli Butter does not contain peanuts, tree nuts or any nut products so it adheres to nut-free school zone guidelines and can be used in your child's lunchbox worry-free. That's why we call it a School-Safe food.

We also love that it's packed with nourishing ingredients for their growing bodies. We’ve incorporated oats, seeds, and healthy oils that are full of fibre, vitamins, minerals, good fats and protein - plus they satisfy hungry tummies. And with only 2 grams of sugar per serve, Muesli Butter is not only a wholesome and delicious substitute for nut butters, but also for jam, honeys and yeast and chocolate spreads.

WHY MUESLI BUTTER IS A HEALTHY AND SCHOOL-SAFE ALTERNATIVE

It contains NO peanuts, tree nuts or other common allergens

Muesli Butter does NOT contain peanuts, tree nuts or any nut products making it the ultimate worry-free and healthy option for school lunchboxes.

In fact, we've also kept out five other of the most common allergens, including:

  • dairy;
  • soy;
  • sesame;
  • eggs; and
  • fish/shellfish.

It’s packed with fibre and protein from oats and linseed

Kids ages one to seventeen need between 19-to-38 grams of fibre a day to helps promote regularity and keep their blood sugar stable. Protein acts as their body’s main building block, helping form muscle, produce hormones, strengthen skin and bones and transport nutrients. Oats and linseed are a great source of both nutrients. In fact, 100 grams of oats contain 10.6 grams of fibre and 11.1 grams of protein, while linseed are made up of 27 grams of fibre and 10 grams of protein. So, if you have a child who really needs to up their fibre and protein intake, then spreading a serving of our oat-based Muesli Butter in their sandwich or adding a spoonful in their smoothie is a delicious and cleaver way to sneak these nutrients into their diet.

It’s low in salt

With so many supermarket-packaged foods high in salt, children tend to eat too much sodium, which can lead to high blood pressure. With only13.8 milligrams per serve, Muesli Butter makes up only 1.5% to 3.5% of the recommended daily sodium intake for children between the ages of one-to-seventeen years old.

It’s free from refined sugar

Refined sugar intake has been linked to conditions like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Yet, it’s found in a variety of children’s foods, making it particularly challenging for parents to avoid. Muesli Butter contains only Maple Syrup – a natural and plant-based sweetener that is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals including calcium, zinc, magnesium and potassium.

It’s a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acid

Omega-3 fatty acid is essential to a child’s diet. It not only acts as an antioxidant to prevent disease, but also is used by the body to promote healthy cell growth and brain function. Muesli Butter is filled with linseed - a superfood of the plant-based source of omega-3, making it the simple solution to getting children to eat them.

It’s made using only good fats

Have you ever wondered why your kids come begging you for a snack one-minute after lunch? It’s because their diet is too low in fat. Their bodies depend on it to properly grow and sustain their daily functions, so it’s important to include it in their meals. But not all fats are created equally. Simply put, there are actually good fats and bad fats - those that support beneficial body processes and fats that have detrimental effects. Muesli Butter is made using only good fats - olive oil, coconut oil and linseed. They are nutrient-dense and they make meals more filling.
